Christoph Ess

At the age of seven years, Christoph Ess got his first french horn lessons at the conservatory of Tübingen. Later he studied at the music academy in Basel and the Stuttgart, where he got his degree with distinction in 2008. He has received scholarships for excellence from the German National study foundation, the German music foundation and others. He also won many prizes on an international level and became a prize-winner in the prestigious „International ARD music competition“ in 2005. Many other awards and international prices followed.

He performed with most renowned big orchestras as a soloist,- in 2007 first time at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. As a chamber musician, he has been invited to numerous international festivals like the Prague Spring e.g..

Ess produced a large number of recordings for different broadcast studios.
Many important and famous orchestras invited him as a soloist, where he performed under the conduction of Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Mariss Jansons, Sir Neville Marriner and others.
Since 2007, he has taken a permanent position as principal horn in the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
