Ludwig Hampe

Ludwig Hampe was born in a family with a musical background in Munich. He grew up playing the violin and started his studies with history of art, followed by studying viola and viola d’amore in Freiburg and Siena.
Since 1985 he is a demonstrator of critical passages of the viola parts at the orchestras of the Opera and the Museum of Frankfurt. Ludwig Hampe is regularly invited to perform with all leading orchestras in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Bamberg, Cologne and Stuttgart. He is specially interested and focused in playing the Baroque viola and in playing chamber music.
Performing with the seldom played instrument of the “viola d’ amor”, Ludwig Hampe counts to the rare soloists with international appreciation. As a soloist on this instrument, Ludwig Hampe performed at the “Salzburger Festspiele”, at the “Expo 2000”, at the famous Rheingau- Festival as well as at the Herrenchiemsee-Festival.
